    Default Peeing in Jack's Cheerios

Okay, I understand that NBSR is/was Jack's forum.
I understand that it was a pain in the ass to moderate and debug and maintain, and yadda yadda yadda.
    No more time, fine.

But shutting the site down right before the LAST BIKE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS?????

That is USDA Prime bull crap, and a full on dick move. Ho Ho F***ing Ho.

    Tim

I think you have a very legitimate point. As someone pointed out and I shared with Jack in emails since the closure. I conveyed it was bad form to simply In Your Face shut the site down. This was and is a complete diss of everyone who has invested time on the site even as a posting member. But it is what it is and Jacks decision must be "Respected" even though we can still "Not Accept It"

I personally have no investment over there so I am not that bummed. I hope the best for Jack and however he resurrects the site in Jan. I think it is safe to say there is not any one thing that caused the decision regardless of what Jack posted as an explanation on another site. We all know Jack wanted to get back to what his vision was in the first place a closed site for personal friends only and that is ok

    FROM THAT OTHER SITE

    Hi Everyone,

First thanks for the note Andy. I hear everyone's thoughts and appreciate all the sentiments and concerns. So let me try to address a few additional things...

The site is down over the holidays because a few select members decided to take the opportunity to promote their own site as their initial reaction to me closing NBSR... which myself and the moderators were totally turned off by. Not to mention, a few other members decided to fly the "fuck you" flag for good measure. If anything, it's a pretty good representation of what I believe has happened to the site and a solid reminder that this was the right thing to do for me.

As much as I'd like to spend my Christmas holiday monitoring all the people that decide to act in bad taste... I would rather spend time with friends and family and not have to worry about it. If anyone disagrees with that... that's certainly your prerogative, but has no bearing on my decision. I will bring the site back online after the 1st for a few more weeks, but then will take it static (no more posting) for several months to come for anyone that wants to download photos or information. While monitoring the traffic over the coming months, once the member traffic slows to a low enough number... I'll take the site offline, but will keep it archived on a private server in case anyone needs urgent access.

I also appreciate everyone's contributions and that it will eventually go away... but that's the risk you take with any web site. I will do my best to make it available to people for as long as possible, but eventually all things end and so it will be for NBSR.

I've had offers to buy it, hand it over and have even had people infer they might use the same name to start another forum... but the name is trademarked and no one has permission to use it without consent. Just to be clear, it's not a money issue. I can easily afford it... it's just become a personal decision.

Yes... it was a referral site for a long time. It was that way for two reasons. There was a vulnerability in the software that made it accessible to high volume spammers. I know they have fixed it since those days, but never had the time to do an upgrade. The second reason was to keep it focused on people who actually knew each other. In my opinion and experience, people behave the worse on forums when they don't have to face each other... knowing that most of the people on the site actually knew each other in person I think kept things great for a long time. It was never about being a forum, it was about bringing people together to share resources, learn from each other, etc...

Some people have implied that I'm done with riding. Actually the opposite is true. Since I started riding again in 2002 I've had sport bikes and done trackdays at ever major track in the area at least 4 times... I had an CR450x bike that I raced in the last District 36 race in Clear Creek and have a BMW R1200GS that I've ridden in a Saddlesore ride to Colorado where I grew up... that I took over an abandoned trail over a 13,000 peak between Silverton and Telluride and just a couple months ago rode with 12 friends to Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada over 9 days. For me it's always been about the riding and I'm looking forward to focusing on the riding again and worrying less about the forum.

Again... I know a lot of people will jump all over my decision... complain, rant... it's become a ubiquitous part of motorcycle forum culture to be pissed off about something. For me, I want to get back to the enjoyment of riding and focusing on the positive side of life.

To everyone who has supported and contributed to NBSR... and to all of the friends I've made... many from SBR... Linda, AC, Tyler and others... thanks for everything.

    Jack

Jack's explanation is still a load of crap.
If he did not want to worry about the back biting and the mass exodus, he didn't have to look.
His moderators would have cleaned up anything over the top over the holidays.

Selfish. Very selfish. (I'm not arguing that it is not his right)

For the record, what the hell is wrong with promoting a site that will help alleviate the vacuum that his decision has created?

You know, the more I read his posts and think about his decisions, the more I'm beginning to think that he's an arrogant, self-serving jerk-off.

Well good for Jack! I'm sure the weight of the world will be lifted off of his shoulders. I can't imagine how much of a pain in the ass all of us knuckleheads have been over the years. I've apologized to that man more than once!

Donald is always in my ear.....go ride. Get out from behind that computer and get on your bike. Always great words to hear, and get me to start to clear my head. Hopefully Jack can get some serious miles under his belt and get back to being a biker!!!!

Hey Whitney, how's life up in the great frozen north?

That's the reason I left that site a long time ago! I don't respect that guy at all and don't want anything to do with him and his elitist attitude... (I did miss some of the good people from nbsr though, hopefully they will migrate over here now).
    no regrets

Wow tim. I kinda agree with you on it being selfish. You cant micro manage a site yourself, you need to delegate authority to you mods and let them make decisions. You know from the military that if you micro manage you destroy the ability of your subordinate supervisors to get anything done or make any critical descesions.

ANd Tim, I think you would make a good MOD.
