Default Another year end tire discussion

So what tires should I use next season oh magnificent terry moto guru.

I am looking that the 200/55 in the theory of what the 190/55 does on a 5.5 inch rim. What are your thoughts.

Or should I goto the Dunlop Ntecs.

    Maybe a cheaper off brand?

HELP oh soothsayer of all things 2 wheels.

    The list:

1 Dunlop Ntec. Hands down, best grip & life. Look at AFM championship. Bring money.
2 Pirelli Super Corsa Pro. Different feel, quick warm up, gives it up sooner than Dunlop Ntec.
3 Dunlop 211 GP. AMA Spec tire. Built to a price point & it shows.

Don't have any experience with other brands. I suspect Michelin & Bridgestone work well. Faster people than us use em.

The design tire for a 5.5" x 17 rim is a 180/60. It can be safely shoveled onto a 5.25 or 5.75" rim, you can push it onto a 5" rim, but it does change the carcass profile.
190/55 on a 5.5" rim is already pushing the limits of the tire.
Trying to shovel a 200/55 onto a 5.5" rim will drastically alter the profile, and is not considered to be safe for street use, let alone on a race track.
(We have a retired Avon motorcycle tire designer on the CX500 forum who loves to lecture us about rim width to tire specifications)

If you have any questions about this, contact someone like Ron Bowen from Pirelli. It takes him some time to get back to you, but he will likely tell you the same thing.
You might also want to check with Santa Rosa BMW to see if they are going to host another tire seminar. It was the most informative motorcycle lecture I have ever attended.

    Yes, that's all you get.

I could take make exhaustive explanation about each rating, but your attention span is to short to actually read it let alone understand the technical aspects your eyes would cross over and you would slowly drift away...........

Bet you didn't read through this post!
