Gary every bike has a point where you get a vibration. And it can change with tire type. No bike is without this. Sometimes it is more noticable then others. So dont fret over it. Especially if it is when you take your hand off the bars!

about your bearings : Sounds to me your bearings maybe a tad worn and that the tightening is masking the loose bearing issue. GET TAPERED BEARINGS... I love them they have a tad more drag but are well worth it.

Well, I guess I should have Terry comment on the trial and tribulation of reducing the harmonics in the front end, but did not solve it. Sounds like he tried many things and at last tighten the head stem nut seemed to reduce the effect. Its doesn't do it if you keep one hand on the bar. Weird.. hard to say what the cause is.. It does not effect ridablitlity and corning. I mean, when do you ever take your hands off the bars going through the corners decelerating anyways???

Calipers are not the cause, wheel is true and balanced, bearing where thought, but not it..
Seems greasing up the steering head loosened things up and could be the possible cause.. but not sure. But I guess I would call it a harmonic, changing wheels with different tires didnt fix it either..
