    Default SV650S question/problem/issue

I've got an 06 SV650S with about 4800 miles on it. What an awesome bike. Anyway, sometimes, usually when it hasn't been started in a couple of weeks, when I start it up (and yes, it starts up right away), as it is sitting there idling on the sidestand, I see a little puddle of gas leaking out. (I know, not good).

It stops after a bit, and when I ride away it is not leaking at all.

Sometimes it does it, sometimes not.

I'll get down there and take a look and see where it is leaking from, but before I do, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I had a mechanic look at it one day and he was unable to reproduce the problem.

I believe this related to the evaporative fuel recovery system. It may have been removed, modified, or damaged.

See if it is still there. If it is, are all the hoses going to the correct place? Service manual or even a sticker on the bike frame will give routing detail.

If it is gone: Where were the hoses (that used to go to the canister) routed to to? Some of these hoses need to be plugged, some removed, and some vented to atmosphere. I can not tell you from here which ones do what. I would have to see it. Bring a bottle of red wine and I'll fix you up;)

You will have to look hard and remove some parts to see all the hoses and their routing. Take your time.

Jimmie, you have experience with SVs. Any suggestions?

Was the tank replaced under the factory recall? Some of the fittings on the tank could crack and cause a leak/fire. Call a Suzuki shop with your VIN and they can see if it had been done or not.

I would be looking at all of the fittings under the tank and make sure all of the clamps are on and tight. Prop the tank up and run the bike and watch for any leaks. I have the hose routing diagrams for an 03 & 04 but not sure they are the same for the 06.

Poke around over on the svrider.com site and see if anyone else has had this problem...

The red wine deal sounds like the HAWT Set-up...
