    Default Carb help Needed

I thought it was time to rebuild my carbs on my CB 500T, I mean they are over 30 years old. I bought 2 kits and and replaced one bolt /washer /needle, and or gasket at a time. I had never tinkered with carbs before so I was very intimidated. Very unsure of my work I took it to my local mechanic here in Napa. (good guy, but work quality has gone down hill as he has gotten busier). I asked him to check my work on the one carb I rebuilt and rebuild the other. He charged me $80, and this is what I got. The carb I rebuilt I think works, and the one he did doesn't. The bike fires on the one cylinder of the carb that works and doesnt on the other side. NOW to make matters worse I have gas in the crankcase so I have no idea which carb caused it.
Is there a solid mechanic in the bay area that I can drop these 2 carbs of and have them checked by someone who knows what they are doing. Obviously I don't, and nor does the mechanic that I am not going back to

You could check the float on the bad carb. If its wedged or stuck it could be fouling your plug and draining your tank into the crank case.

What kind of carb are we talking about?

The best carb guy I know live in Sacramento, name's Larry.
He's not cheap, but NOBODY does carbs like him.
By the time he is done with them, they look better than new, and run like they came off the showroom floor.

    Larry works with Kehins.
(Specializes in Honda CX CV carbs, but he has also expertly handled Goldwing, Inline 4, and CBX inline 6 carbs without any problems)
I have had him rebuild two pairs of CX650 Carbs, and in the CX community, he is known as the carburetor God. (He can set perfect syncronization of twin carbs off bike 50% of the time by eyeball alone, before they are installed)
    $275.00 per pair.
For that price, he pulls them apart (except for the butterflies themselves, unless they are toasted).
Rebuilds them with OEM or better (Randakk kit) gaskets and o-rings.
Cleans them in an ultrasonic cleaner for 8-24 hours depending on how bad the carbs are gummed up.
Pulls out all of the jets and emulsion tubes, cleans, polishes, and makes sure the holes are open to OEM specification using micro bit drills.
Goes through all of the internal caverns, crevasses, nooks, crannies, and little hidden air lines to make sure there's not a spec of dust in them.
Polishes the external aluminum on the float bowls and diaphragm cap to shine almost like chrome.
He also lubes all of the little springs and joints.
If you bring the bike up, he will even synch it to your bike.

I sat with him and watched once. Carburetor virtuoso.

He also wrote the most definitive book on how to rebuild the carbs if you want to do it yourself.

I can put you in touch with him if you want.

In the carb on the cyl that doesn't fire your float valve is bad or the float level is off. Or the float itself is bad . . .

How do you replace / and or repair this.

This is where my mentality says pay someone to do it, so its done right
