I'm a maybe for this one. I'm sure Terry will probably do it too.

no regrets
you guys have fun!!! I will be in for only doing 3j's this year...
No track whoring this year, just ride, ride, ride.. Hope to see you riding. So Terry where I find a track pimp anyways?
??!?!?!? huh.... why you gonna jinx yourself so early in the year gary.....
Well, if you do the math they are quite profitable as long as they sell out each event. If you look at the costs of renting out the track (individually), on average the people who do it offer open track time (since they dont have instructors to pay) and they limit the spots to about 40-50 individuals usually paying around $200-250. Or roughly around 12k to rent out T-Hill on a weekday.
I understand the prices maybe inflated all around from track to track because Infineon may costs dramatically higher then T-hill for a day. However these companies usually run 3x groups at about 40-50 people per day. At 150 people vs 50 people with prices admission fees normally higher then a open track day these companies should be very profitable, or at least 3x profitable.
I understand they have to pay their instructors and pit crew and turn workers, and of course their bikes, and 1/2 million dollar motorhomes. But these guys should be profitable, and if not they need to re-run the numbers and inflate their track admission prices to make themselves profitable.
My thought was invest into the company and hold 20% share of it, which in return i would only ask for 2x open spots out of every track day of the calender year. Hopefully get some free track time, and write off everything for tax expenses. Guess im just dreaming.
its not as easy as you think. you have to rent spaces from the track. there is a minimum cost and for each rider there is an additional cost. At the end it works out just to rent the track about 15k for a POSSIBLE 100 people. so at 220 bucks you have to have about consistent 70% capacity JUST TO PAY FOR THE TRACK FEES. Not to mention all the other things you have to pay for- living expenses ect.

did you see me...
I'm'a try and make this one too! But damnit if i've spent sooo much money on my road bike lately. I have plain ole road tires on the duc to boot!! Ack, well, my taxes ARE getting done today...soooooooooooo............maybe i'll find some cheese to go out and cause a ruckus witt you boys
Uh........yeah, like that's a popular idear. Weren't you the one carrying on about how the DMV raised your non-op fees by $5?? LOL!
Nobody can raise prices without serious customer defection right now. And, as Charles noted, the more people you book, the higher the track fees.
But, if you're this optomistic about it, I would encourage you to give it a try. Might work!
tony,
you forget one major thing, these fees that we pay are NOT mandated, and the individual usually has already planned it into their budget, and if they dont have the $, then they sit out on the day and do not attend the track day. I can definitely plan a extra 5, 20, 50 dollars for specific track days that I know I want to attend if compared to the previous year.
Fees that are increased and ARE mandated, are just there to help offset their negative books.
If the government really wanted to balance their books, they can start by eliminating the MILLIONS of dollars that are being spent on firework shows that each city puts on.
Then maybe look into all the private funding (MILLIONS) that are being dumped into the campaigns every 4x years.
Then maybe look into all the defense contracts, then maybe look at all the grants that are being disbursed and plan a course of action for them, instead of letting them go chapter 7.
Nobody runs a business to NOT be profitable, the track day providers SHOULD make a GOOD profit if each day sells out. Every track day on their calendar year should be extremely planned out with a minimum attendee list that covers the operating costs of renting out that day, if that is executed as planned every additional sign up is pure profit.
wow.. Must be nice to live in a fantasy world.

1.That "mandated" extra $5, $10, or $20 saves our state hundreds of dollars in wages and paperwork that it would take to keep track of your extra bike.
2. Private funding is the finacers option to do what he wants with his own money. You want to spend your money riding, he wants to spend his money on politics.
3.defense contracts is what makes the US the #1 super power in the world. Would you rather roll the dice and see what happens if we don't have the best military? I say give ouir boys anything and everything they could want or need to make their lives easier while enforcing whatever they need to enforce. Troops love cool toys.
The big puzzler for me that somebody can educate me on is...Why does the cost go up for more riders? Seems like there would be a set price for renting a track and the more riders you could sign up for it, the more it would spread out the cost.
