    Default 1993 kx125

anyone have thoughts on this bike. I have an opportunity to pick it up for $500. I thought it would be a good bike for the son to putter around on before getting him a 250 ( he is a big boy). and then use it for a extra bike afterwords.

125's by nature are hi strung hold em wide open to get anywhere bikes (Especially that era). Are they trail bikes No, not in a long shot. You would be better off looking for a 200KDX, these are plunker tree climbing fun bikes or a thumper of that same size. a 125 like that, will cost to maintain as well.

To be honest Charles, I never rode the KX, I have the RM and YZ 125's as well as the CR's. My experiance with those where differnt as well. The Honda was the best of the bunch, had power all the way through, with the YZ always havin gthe YZ hit at 10k and then all hell breaks loose. The RM or I refer to Retarded Model, really hated the POS, flooded, handled like crap and was YELLOW

If it is running, I suggest riding it

My best friend raced a 93 kx125. It didn't have any low end (as far as other 125's go) but ripped on top. It was a good handling bike with good suspension and I don't remember any major problems. I had a 96 kx125 that was awesome. To this day it is the fastest 125 I've ever ridden (cylinder was ported by factory tuner Tom Morgan). No problems with that bike either. You can ride em in the mountains if you are quick with the clutch and keep your momentum up but you won't have much fun trying to chug up a rocky, rutted hill climb. For 500 bucs I say get it...you can sell it later ...when you realize it's not that much fun in the mountains.
    no regrets
