Thread: Noob needs help

I am so new I don't have a bike or an idea on what I need. I am looking to get a bike as a commuter and only messed around on a friends bike a few years ago. I've been talking to guys at work for help.

Here's some of my questions:

1. What makes a good commuter bike?
2. Helmets - All different prices but what makes one good?
3. Gear - as a commuter what gear should I get?
4. Shoes - should I get boots/shoes and bring another pair to work or wear what shoes I have?


Any input is a great help.

Seriously, all the above, will add a Kawasaki Ninja 650, Suzuki GS500F and there are some Dual sports from Honda, KTM, Aprillia that may work, it just depends on what you want.

Just went by local shops to look at bikes and see how they feel. New bikes look good but lore than I want to spend. Charles said start small and upgrade in 6 months to a year.

So I looked at helmets while I was out and I looked at the O'neil and ?? that both have Bluetooth. The geek in me wanted to walk out with one but I didn't. I looked at the Scorpion 1000. I like the whole 2nd visor idea instead of sunglasses or switching visors. I have to review my budget to see what would work best.

For commuting what level of helmet is best? The simple inexpensive or spend a little more?

I want to spend a little more but I know that if I buy the expensive helmet I will crash in 5 days. If I buy a cheap helmet I will be able to hand it down to my grandson (Murphy's Law).
